Greenhouse going green

Hello fellow gardeners 🌱🌺🌼🍁

My greenhouse has ironically developed a green tinge. Looks like a fine moss or similar growing all over the glass.

I'm planning to give it a good scrub in the spring. I'm currently debating if hot water and washing up liquid or hot water and bleach would give the best result and ideally prevent it happening again for a while.

The garden seems especially damp this year, moss on the lawn is rampant.

Any advice or experience re cleaning the greenhouse?

moss is growing because it likes the conditions, which are likely to be damp and shady. To stop it coming back you'll need it to be dry and sunny so you might have a problem with the position.

My greenhouse does get a bit of green on the glass, I just wash it with hot water (because it's impossible to stay dry when washing a greenhouse) and glass cleaner.

Thanks that's a good point about staying dry. Puts me off using bleach.

Position wise it's been fine for years then suddenly bam it's green.

It's algae, and will always appear during very wet weather (such as we've had in recent months). Washing up liquid will probably do the job, but there are proprietary greenhouse glass cleaners available (from a good garden centre) if you want to go down that route.
I have two large greenhouses (at least 26 years old), where the glass is now quite dirty, but I'm too old at 73 to be climbing up to tackle them! I look on it as free shading during the summer months!

NanTheWiser Thank you! You have just relieved me of a whole load of guilt!

Glad to be of service, MereDint! I have a friend with a 32 foot greenhouse, who is lucky enough to have a partner who cleans her roof every year (she's 78), and she scrubs the whole interior every winter - you could eat your dinner off her floor! I'm afraid I'm not quite as OCD as that!

I have a friend with a 32 foot greenhouse Ooh - I'm jealous of that! One thing I've learned - it's impossible for a greenhouse to be too big.
