I've just dug over a patch of ground for fruit and planted bare root raspberries, currents and gooseberries. It's is all protected from birds by a fruit cage, but I really don't want to spend my life weeding it,y toddler won't let me! Would woodchips work as a general weed suppressor?

Yes - good depth of wood chip but keep it back from the stems of your plants. Better still would be to use weed suppressant, with the wood chip on the top of it. Newspaper or cardboard can be used as weed suppressant if you don't want to go the plastic route!

Ooh - that sounds good, thank you!
