Rose bush - what has attacked it

Noticed yesterday that our rose bush suddenly has no leaves. Still has flowers and buds, has been fed and was thriving. Any thoughts on why or how to protect it.

Are there any fallen leaves around it, or have they been completely eaten off?

Looks like mine did when rose sawfly larvae had a go at it...

No no fallen leaves. @LBOCS2 did yours recover?

Yes, although I noticed earlier in the season so there was time for new leaves to come in. At this point in the year I'd spray it, give it a hard prune in the spring and keep a close eye on it early next year. I think they pupate underground so they may overwinter there and then try again next spring so try to keep on top of it.

My guess is sawfly. Check along the stems. Can you see areas where it has been split open from eggs?
