We're just finishing building a garden, so it's a complete blank slate! Can you recommend good websites for bulbs and other plants, with reasonable prices and safe delivery?

(I'll be growing from seeds, cuttings etc where possible, of course.)

Ashridge Nurseries sent me a massive delivery of lavender a few years ago. They were great.
If you have a lot to buy, maybe approach a local wholesale nursery.
For other stuff, Crocus is good. Sarah Raven if you have £££

Secret Gardening club is good. I think though you are probably better off looking locally. And don’t forget places like Aldi, Morrison’s, Wilco and Poundland. We have a great local wholesale nursery but some other good cheap garden centres which work out cheaper than buying online.

Peter Nyssen is supposed to be good for bulbs.

Crocus and Telegraph Garden Shop is very good. Avoid Primrose at all costs.

Sarah Raven is good, here are a couple of voucher codes:

DR19C: 10% off

AT19R636: £5 off (minimum spend £5; valid until 22 Sep 2019)

Parker's bulbs are good

I was in a similar position last year in September and made a list which I then discussed with a few garden centres. This proved really useful as they helped to refine options and sizes and come up with a few bargains and in early October they delivered everything. As it was a little later in the year I got an awful lot more for my money than I would have got otherwise. I also ordered my bulbs from Sarah Raven really just because they had the ones I really wanted at a decent price.

It might not work for you to do it this way but I thought I'd mention it just in case. The results this year have been amazing.

Hayloft for slightly unusual things

But really my local nurseries are often cheaper and know what will work in what areas etc- that's been my biggest learning point, plant things where they say they want to be or just start again when it dies. I also raid the reduced section of the local garden centre when things are past their best but as perennials, will be back next year with TLC

I don't seem to be any good with small plants, seeds or plugs so while they're cheaper, I don't actually save that way.

Avoid Thompson and Morgan- I've rarely had anything that's done well from them
