a poorly pear tree

I bought dh a pear tree for his birthday and we've planted it in the garden. It gets plenty of sun and shade where it is.
The poor things leaves have all gone brown and withered (some still green). I've taken all the dead leaves off and given it plenty of water.
Does it just need time to get used to its new environment, or are we just the kiss of death to plants! Everything else in our garden seems to get eaten except rosemary, lavender, thyme, tomato plants and weeds!

pear trees need a sheltered position. Maybe the site is too exposed? They are also susceptible to frost - could it be frost damage?

Thanks, I think it's got a good amount of shelter. It looked so healthy in its tub. I don't think it could be frost - it's been wet here but not cold.

What do the branches look like? Our apple trees were hit with what we think was fireblight this year. The branches themselves were very shrivelled and the bark went red and papery with black underneath One was terminal and the other two (cordon) were looking very sick so we took them out before it hit our pear tree.

It's looking a bit better I think - some new shoots on it. Fingers crossed eh?
