Cannabis lol
I don’t know but following with interest

Beekeeper1 · 17/07/2019 21:34

Errr...it DOES look very much like cannabis actually!! Not sayin' it is mind you...

Any anglers in the family who might have discarded some hempseed ( often used as bait and usually cooked, so unlikely to germinate)?

Or do you keep cage birds and have spilt or thrown out some of their food which, again, often has hempseed in it? Or cage cleanings out?

Just trying to think of a rational explanation...

Beekeeper1 · 17/07/2019 21:41

More innocently, it is not dissimilar to the leaves of Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), which is much more likely!!

Is it growing in very damp or moist soil - the favoured habitat for Meadowsweet, damp meadows, ditches, riverbanks etc?

DailyFailAreTwats · 17/07/2019 21:58

I think it might just be meadowsweet!! Pretty sure the 80 year old we bought the house from wasn't a stoner.... mind you, never can tell!!

I don’t think it’s hemp, it would be taller. I don’t think it’s meadowsweet either because that’s flowering away right now.. have a look at pictures of ground elder though because it’s a lot like that. Ground elder’s only virtue is being edible, the Romans brought it here as a food plant apparently!

Beekeeper1 · 17/07/2019 22:42

My money is still on Meadowsweet - the leaves are five lobed, whereas Ground Elder has three lobed leaves. Agree, it should be in full flower now, but if it is stunted through being in a dry situation, which it appears to be from the photograph, it may not throw up flower spikes.

Any chance of a picture showing the profile of the stems which might make positive identification easier?

Fucksandflowers · 18/07/2019 09:18

I would have said cannabis!
😂

Errr...it DOES look very much like cannabis actually!! Not sayin' it is mind you. - leaf texture is right for cannabis but by that stage cannabis leaves would have separate leaflets, so it definitely isn't.

It's not ground elder, that has much smoother leaves, also with separate leaflets (actual leaflets, not lobed leaves) (there's a reason it's called ground elder - the leaves look very similar to elderberry).

meadowsweet is a possibility - it should be in flower, but this looks like a plant whose growth has been delated. Or goatsbeard - Aruncus dioicus. Definitely something to keep, at least until you get a flower and a firm id.

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2019 10:15

delayed, of course, not delated

DailyFailAreTwats · 18/07/2019 16:36

Awful photos, but I've taken one of the stem and one of what looks to be the beginnings of a flower. It is a dry bed so it might be stunted. One to watch abs wait though?? Or go into dodgy rural hash farming??

That looks like meadowsweet to me. You should know soon enough if they open into fluffy scented white clouds. (Or pink if it's a cultivar)

Trethew · 18/07/2019 19:14

Agree. Some variety of meadowsweet - Filipendula

Siameasy · 18/07/2019 19:19

I have meadowsweet seedlings and the stems are a dark pink colour

Moondancer73 · 18/07/2019 19:22

Definitely not cannabis - too bright green and that grows from multiple points on the stem, like tomato plants.

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2019 21:22

Definitely not cannabis - too bright green and that grows from multiple points on the stem, like tomato plants. And as I said, the leaves are wrong. Cannabis has leaflets, as you must have seen on the t-shirts. The fingers on your leaves are joined at the base, they're not separate leaflets.

DailyFailAreTwats · 19/07/2019 09:08

I'm almost disappointed I'm not accidentally growing dope.

Can you smoke meadowsweet?
