Reddening leaves on Cornus- is this normal? (Pic)

It does this each year but in my opinion looks unslightly (in the process of taking them off to leave green behind!). Just wondered if it's normal- can I do anything to prevent it next year?

I'm afraid I can't remember which variety it is (any ideas?)

Btw I do embrace this sort of colouring in the autumn but in the late spring/early summer it seems odd, isn't it?

My red-stemmed cornus does this, the green-stemmed ones don't. I think it's normal.
