Thanks. It's getting huge in our garden but a quick google says not to prune it until next spring and even then to be gentle.

Really? Cotoneaster in my experience is a total thug and you can hack it about with gay abandon whenever the mood takes you.

There are loads of types of cotoneaster though. Any idea what you have?

You don't need a chainsaw - hedge trimmer will do. I do mine about three times a year.
