Can anyone offer any advice about how to treat this, or the causes? How does it affect flowering? I have 5 large courgette plants, 2 are affected. I’m a total novice.

it's because of the heat and dry ground. try watering more.

it shouldn't affect flowering.

but I'm Shock at 5 plants. I hope your family likes courgettes :o

I've failed to grow mildew free courgettes ever! It doesn't affect the courgettes themselves usually.

5 is nothing, dp is member of a gardening site where some novice planted 25 to the great amusement of the more experienced members.
Bacillus subtilis is good at controlling mildew but I don't know if you can buy it in normal gardening shops.
