Hello, I am very clueless about gardening, but keen to learn.

Have my first garden, and the following have popped up. Anyone know what they are?

Thanks

You’re in Feminism Chat, so you might not get the response you were expecting.

But the second one is an ash tree. I’d get that out ASAP. They get huge.

BigGapMum · 23/06/2019 20:32

The first looks like Dogwood - a shrub that has nice red stems throughout the winter.
The second pic is an ash seedling. Dig it up quickly unless you want a ash tree there.

Whoops! I am a big fan of feminism chat but didn’t mean to post here at all! Thanks for your responses

The first one looks like dogwood, which is lovely but prone to woolly aphid so keep an eye on it.

I think the second one might be elder or ground elder and if so I would have it out asap.

Needmoresleep · 23/06/2019 20:44

It depends how they identify. Cactus perhaps.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 23/06/2019 20:48

All power to FWR: all types of problems solved!

MeOnSea · 23/06/2019 20:48

Very sharp @needmoresleep ! Have asked for this to be moved to gardening

I think we need more feminist gardening threads. Would be a calming, pleasant little oasis amid the maelstrom. And yes, ash seedlings grow like bastards given half a chance.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 23/06/2019 20:54

hah. truly there is nothing the women of FWR can't address!

Artesia · 23/06/2019 20:56

Is it just me who was disappointed to open this and find it was genuine rather than a pic of LOJ?

tobee · 23/06/2019 20:58

Yes. I was all ready for "what fresh hell is this?"

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/06/2019 21:10

Ffs - even the plants are bloody self identifying now - goes off in a strop to trash the garden......

KimMumsnet · 23/06/2019 21:27

Evening all, just going to replant this one on the gardening board.

Oh and watch out OP, if there’s one ash tree seedling there will be eleventy million. Ash trees seed like utter bastards.

Sooverthemill · 23/06/2019 21:29

Made my evening anyway

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/06/2019 22:31

Not a dogwood - they have opposite leaves. This one has alternate leaves.

GreasedPiglet · 23/06/2019 22:33

I think it's ash seedlings that are trying to take over my garden.
