Seed pods on my acer!

I'm very excited that my green acer has some seed pods. They look like the little aeroplane ones that spin through the air. Is there any possibility I'd be able to grow another acer?

DH gathered some last year but I don't think he showed them. He knows a lot about gardening so I think he was fully expecting them to work if he had.

Oh, that sounds promising - thank you.

I’ve got some too, hadn’t thought about trying to grow them. Think I’ll give it a try.

Yes - some years ago I bought a packet of "mixed acer" from Chiltern seeds, and got over a dozen trees from them including 3 different snake bark maples with beautiful trunks striped in green and white, and a paper bark with peeling bark like a birch tree (but brown not white).

It felt really special when my first seedling acer had flowers and then seeds of its own - my first grandchildren ;-)

Does anyone know what to do with the seed pods and when? I'd love to have a little acer family.

Gather them in the autumn when they are ripe - there are online resources about how to germinate them, they need the winter cold and then start to grow in the spring.

Thanks rollingpine, I'll have a look online.
