Rose balling/buds not opening

Hello knowledgable people. I bought a small rose back in March. Unfortunately can't remember the variety but it is one suitable for pots. Since potting it and feeding it it seemed to do brilliantly, grown loads with glossy leaves and three lovely looking red buds looking like they were on the cusp of blooming.

I checked for over a week until finally my optimism went and I realised they wouldn't!

I googled it and the only thing I can think of is too much water (it's been very wet here). My other, much more established potted rose, is doing brilliantly however and is blooming happily.

In a moment of desperation I snipped the buds off at the nearest branch, as the petals were so tightly closed.

Any ideas on what caused this and if my rose will produce any buds that'll flower?

Thanks

The rain will have this affect on rose buds. When the weather gets drier and warmer ( hoping) the Rose will repeat flower.
A few rose types only flower once, but hopefully yours will bloom all summer.

Thanks@Beebumble2 that's reassuring.

Snipping the buds off will encourage it to produce new flowers if it's going to, so was the right thing to do.

@MereDintofPandiculation thanks, I will keep my fingers crossed.

Nearly one month on and wanted to update the thread to say thanks again and show off all 9 of the new buds, including two which are blooming. You were right and I am so pleased. It's the little things hey?!
