Seedlings query - SLUGZ

Every year I start my hardy annuals from seed. Some in autumn some in spring. Corn flower, Calendula, Echium and others

Currently I have a wire shelving thing with a plastic cover which I would like to replace as it’s dilapidated.

Plus, because despite all my efforts, slugs get many of my seedlings even tho they’re up high. How are they getting them?!?

I end up putting the seedlings on our garden dinner table and for some reason the slugs have never cottoned on.

Where do you start your annual seedlings? Would slugs get into one of those mini greenhouse things? Maybe I should just buy two pasting tables and be done with it!!

Slugs get into our house and wander round the house plants (not eating them though). They either come in as tiny eggs after we've given the houseplants their summer outing or they can climb walls!!

Since going organic I've far fewer, but that doesn't help you Grin they don't like caffeinated coffee grounds , I used to put vaseline around the tops of the terrace pots and that worked, also, after removing their bases, putting plastic bottles upside down over each pot, that's good because it warms up their environment.

Thanks they’re doing my head in
I will try the coffee and the Vaseline.

And or get a pond; with frogs/toads they LOVE slugs and snails.

I had a toad but it left! I did want a small pond but I thought that in itself may encourage slugs
