Does anyone recognise this? I planted loads of seeds... but can't work out if it's friend or foe!

That looks like a poppy to me - the annual sort, not oriental. This may or may not be something you planted deliberately, the seeds are long lived and germinate when the ground is disturbed (hence the poppy fields of WWI). So digging up an area for new planting can quite often result in a few of these. Whether you count it as friend or foe is up,to you - I like them, count them as a bonus. (but the heart shaped leaves around look like bindweed, definitely a foe)

Ah, I hoped they might be poppies! I did scatter some seeds and love them. Bloody bindweed on the other hand is the bane of my gardening life!

Thank you!!

Opium poppy. Basic form has large purply-pink flowers, but there are lots of double forms around. (Our climate isn't warm enough to develop the opium so they're quite legal to grow)

I've got a huge one appear in a bed I dug over a couple of years ago, Colour is just starting to show on a bud - like all the poppies I've had appear before in this garden over the 25 years we've been here it's a lovely deep raspberry.Smile
