Best ant deterring plants?

Heaving with the little bastards...

I think biodiversity plays a massive role as although the front garden has lots of aphids and ants it is crammed with a huge variety of plant species and not a single plant shows any damage at all despite clearly having aphids and ants resident on them.

My problem is the back garden..

The back garden at the moment has very few plants, I have pulled up one of my favourite roses from the front to be relocated to the back but I don’t want it destroyed by the ants..

It’s currently planted somewhere different to where I really want it as the favoured spot pours out with ants as soon as the shovel hits it...

What can I plant with my rose to protect it?

ants do not damage plants.
they 'herd' aphids but do not do any direct damage so your rose will be fine.
make sure you plant it deep enough, water it enough.

I’m not so sure.

The ants like to bite holes in my cherries thus damaging the crop and the aphids make the leaves of plants distort and weaken and eventually kill the plant.

I have lost plants as a direct result of aphids in the early days of doing the front garden when there was nothing much in there aside from ants.

you could try nematodes or pouring water on their nest(s).
