Stock grown from seed

Im new to growing things from seeds so bear with me...i have sowed a packet of stock in a plant pot and now have lots of seedlings about 2-3 inches high. should I thin out? Can I replant them into direct into the ground ???

At this stage I’d thin them out and plant them In a larger pot until they grow a bit larger. If you put then into the ground they may be food for slugs.
