Lupin aphid infestation

We have an infestation of Lupin aphids currently killing some lupine. I e looked on RHS website and they recommend some pest control formulations but they also warn against spraying when the plants are in flower due to danger to toe insects. So it’s a bit of a conundrum really.

Do we spray anyway? Remove the plants? Or are there any less dangerous methods to deal with the aphids?

Washing up liquid and water in a spray works well and is safe to use.

To echo PP the washing up liquid is a good trick. Mine are covered every year, drives me nuts after how lovely they look only to be bombarded!

I have noticed the same this afternoon. I have sprayed with water and washing up liquid and will see what happens.

We went full on and pulled the lupins out. They were n the wrong place anyway and a bit squished. Then DH poured a couple of basins of water with washing up liquid over the area. Hope it works, there were hundreds of the bloody things! And they had already killed one plant which is how DH noticed.
