Does anyone know what these are please?

A friend of a friend has kindly sent me a few plants from his greenhouse and I'm stuck as to what these are
I thought at first they were young hollyhocks but probably not
Thing is I'll see him on Saturday and he will enjoy my ignorance as he's a bit of a know it all - which I'd love to avoid if at all possible
Plant finder thinks they're lettuce

They do look like hollyhocks - but maybe could be mallows (lavatera)?

I used to love those plants years and years ago when I had a bigger garden - they spread don't they?
