New gardener here - earlier this year I sowed a Cottage Garden Seed Mix, got good results and have been able to ID most of the resulting plants (Lupins, borage, stocks, phlox etc) but there are a couple of seedlings I’m struggling with. There’s no info online as to what seeds are included in this mix. I initially thought one was cosmos but, comparing it to other cosmos seedlings I’ve grown, the leaves are a slightly different shape, and rather than one straight stem, the mystery seedling has several stems. The other I have no idea. Hoping you can help!

The second one could be Cosmos

Could the first one be lavender?

MellowMelly · 22/05/2019 12:15

The second one does look like a Cosmos, mainly the middle part of it. So many different types of Cosmos that it’s hard to tell.
My initial reaction to the first one was St Johns Wort.

The second one looks a lot like something we have coming up from a packet of bee friendly wild flower seeds we planted recently - so it should be nice!

The first looks like flax

@stayathomegardener
yes it does look like flax with the leaves! Maybe not St Johns then like I earlier thought.

BuffyChiro · 22/05/2019 20:59

I quite like the look of flax (thanks for the photo!) so I’m pleased with that. I’d be pleased with some more Cosmos too, so I hope it is that. Thank you all for taking a look.

Flax and Nigella.

Beekeeper1 · 22/05/2019 23:37

First one looks like purple toadflax (Linaria purpurea) and second one love in a mist (Nigella)
