Mushroom/Fungus appeared on Bark Mulch

Last October I weeded the borders and laid bark chippings directly onto the soil hoping to cut down on weeding this year and improve my horrible dry soil. It has been pretty wet here recently and yesterday I was having a tidy up and congratulating myself on how few weeds had got through so far when I noticed 3 or 4 tubular shaped mushroom type things poking up through the bark. A bit concerned they may be poisonous to humans or dogs I googled and found this is not uncommon on bark. Stinkhorn was mentioned mostly although these ones are grey/brown singular tubes with a hole on the wider top as opposed to the more lurid ones that are pictured online.
It is throwing it down with rain right now but I will try to upload a photo later when I venture out.
Have I just exchanged one annoying issue for another and how can I stop it spreading please?

It will do, rotting wood is where fungi live. It's how forests survive.

Why is it a problem?

Ha - well good question. I suppose because I’m not a fungus expert and wanted to sure I didn’t have any toxic ones growing on my patch! Also I’d not seen anything like this sprout in a previous barked garden. If it is stinkhorn, which was the closest thing I found online, then it is supposed to smell like a rotting carcass so again not the most desirable garden ornament. Can’t say I smelt anything though.

It’s been raining all day here so I’ve not been out to get a picture but will try to tomorrow to see if I can get an id.

I very much doubt it is stinkhorn.

I get this too. It's annoying but unavoidable. Removing a few mushrooms is easier than removing lots of weeds 🙂

Perfectly normal, indeed, helpful/desirable. Put a pic up if you can.
