Any ideas what this is? It’s appeared on a bank we cleared a few years ago. Could easily be some kind of pesky tree self-seeding, but the bank was covered in bushes and shrubs (and brambles and blackthorn, hence the decision to clear).

Does it stay or does it go?

I have no idea, but I would probably leave it.

I’m softie that way.

Dogwood (Cornus). They sucker like buggery. We have loads in our garden, some tit used them in our hedges and I hate them!

None of the decorative red stem malarkey. Just unremarkable flowers, some berries, leaves everywhere in the autumn, and looooooooong root systems colonising your lawn and flowerbeds. And see through hedges.

I like your style Chardonnay, but suckers are a bugger, MrsBert! I shall do what I can. Explains why it survived so well

I know.

I have a couple of bastard trees in the garden to prove it.
