Complete novice gardener here! We bought a beautiful malus x purpurea tree last week, it was in full bloom with beautiful pink flowers. It was planted in a sunny spot and soon after it started to look a bit sad and has shed most of its flowers. Is it just the time of year or is my tree dying? Pics attached before and after

Poor 'crap apple tree', that's a bit harsh!Grin

The flowers are almost completely over on my crab apple, and on the one I can see in my neighbour's garden, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. Blossom time is short and sweet!

It's slightly hard to tell from your photo but I think the leaves look ok - maybe some looking a bit dry. Have you been watering it? New trees need water, I think, and it's been pretty dry recently.

I didn’t even spot that Grin crab apple of course

Such a shame the flowers didn’t last longer - it looks ok minus the followers, I think it’s the weepy type so hard to tell if it’s suffering from lack of water but we have been watering it loads.

I’ve managed to kill my beloved baby magnolia and also a pear tree and apple tree last year so I’ve not got a great track record, Fingers crossed then

Well, the flowers don't last that long, sadly. The only thing I would say is you need to remove those green ties, which are really only for display purposes, and put in a proper tree stake and tree tie (from the garden centre). Those ties will strangle the trunk and kill it. Give it plenty of water and a feed and it should grow away.

Maybe it senses you dont like it?

What a lovely colour it is. Soil looks dry and not great. Give it water, feed and an encouraging chat Wink.
They need lots of love when they are new.
