This was resting in a semi shady spot - hope its just a dragonfly and not an asian hornet queen!!! If someone can id this would be much appreciated. Thank you. Quite big but smaller than a blue dragonfly.

No idea but I want to know so I'm going to lurk Smile

It looks like a Horntail or Woodwasp. They don’t sting or bite.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 10/05/2019 12:08

Oh wow it’s beautiful! No idea what it is though sorry.

Pineappleunder · 10/05/2019 12:09

Definitely a wood wasp

stella1know · 10/05/2019 12:10

Thankyou. Are they native, or ok to have? I am always so proud of my wildlife garden but at the sight of the first odd bug i wrongly worry 🤦🏻‍♀️
Apologies for the first pic being blurry - i selected the wrong one. But the second is better.

Not an expert but did a bit of googling, Is it one of these?

If so that would make it a fancy daddy long-legs. Are you in the UK? That link doesn't seem to suggest we really get them here...

Fazackerley · 10/05/2019 12:13

I think thats a lady wood wasp

stella1know · 10/05/2019 12:20

No im in northern (land of xmas markets and prince albert) but we usually have the same common flora and fauna as southern uk. ;) you can tell im not a biologist ;) i can add my sighting to the website, @narya that looks right. Thanks. Just glad its not something dangerous.
