Help me identify this tree please?

We inherited this tree when we moved in 5 years ago. It normally has lots of small green/yellow leaves. Last year it had leaves but they died off quickly. This year no leaves so far and now the bark is peeling off. Is it salvageable?? Is it dead. And what sort of tree is it?

I’m afraid it looks dead. I can’t quite make out what type it is. Last year was so hot and dry, it put a lot of strain on some tree.

I’m sorry I don’t know. It has a very distinctive form, very dense and upright.

I’m guessing you are near the coast because of the other plants in the photos. Most plants that do well at the seaside should have been ok in a drought.

But you are right, most trees apart from ash are in leaf now, or at least in bud. Funeral time I suspect 😟

Thanks for your replies. I'm not near the coast, we're on a slope so it stays quite wet. The neighbours cut down an apple tree in the last couple of years not sure if that would have affected mine? It's such a shame as it was a beautiful tree.

I also think that's dead. The apple tree going won't have impacted it, they don't die of grief because they lost their friend.😋

Trees have a life span. Looks like that ones time was up

Thanks bluntness Grin.
