Weed in gravel

Just that...how on earth do I get rid of it? It's making me feel so fad every time I come home cz it looks disgusting.

It hasn't been maintained in over a year and has weed growing through the gravel.

Do I have to remove all the gravel and start afresh or are there any other easier methods.

Any advice and guidance would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Try to kill it with salt and a kettle of boring water. This is what I do for the weeds that grow in-between tiles in my garden. You kill the root and weed without dangerous chemicals.

If it’s making you so sad it’s effecting your spelling I would recommend weeding. This is in old school terms getting down and pulling the weeds out. Hope this helps xoxo

Not sure how boiling water became boring...

Alicewond · 29/04/2019 04:43

@LiliesAndChocolate maybe just Over time :)

Haha- my first ever spelling correction! It was irresistible.

Alicewond · 29/04/2019 05:08

@claraschu I will be watching every word you say now until the end of time 😂

Alice - Wonderful! A challenge!
You won't have to wait long, I bet...

Blast it with weed killer. Afterwards shift the gravel about and put weed fabric stuff down underneath

LiliesAndChocolate · 29/04/2019 07:57

The problem with weed killer is the risk of cancer for humans, so before using it, try other methods such as salt, boiling water, vinegar ....

I am not sure if salt is good for the soil, but I would make sure it's away from your plants. I just hoe my gravel. It's quite therapeutic - Zen monks do it as a meditational practice (I think). Hoe a bit at a time to loosen the weeds, then rake them up with an adjustable-tine rake. It will take a while the first time if it's very weedy - maybe just try and do a couple of square metres at a time. But once you've cleared it, it will be quick to do every couple of weeks. The best bit is raking the gravel back to neatness after you've finished.
