Rockery plant, any ideas?

I’ve just found this lovely single flower in my rockery. I’m pretty sure I didn’t plant it. The leaves in the photo have nothing to do with the flower, it’s as if it grows straight from the ground. It’s about 1.5 cms across. Any ideas?

It looks like one (of the many) red-flowered mossy saxifrages.

Yeah, looks like a saxifrage of some description. Maybe it came in with something you planted, a little hitchhiker Smile . I had an orchid (a native marsh orchid) hitch a lift with an alpine I bought a couple of years ago- that was a very nice surprise!

Thanks for the reply Nan, there is Saxifraga nearby, but they flower differently.

I’ve isolated the leaves and I think it’s an off shoot from a neighbouring rock rose. Early for flowering, though.

Yes Pigeon I love bonus plants for free. Thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to keep an eye on it, hopefully it will grow some more.

Picture of isolated leaves. They’re the spiked clumps.

That is definitely a saxifrage
