Olives!

Forgive my excitement... For the first time our olive tree seems to have cropped. We're in southwest UK
I'm a bit confused why there are fruits now... Could they be from last summer and why haven't they dropped?

Wow! Is It outdoors all winter? If not the warm winter may have caused it to flower earlier than usual. Did you notice it flowering?

Tree is planted outside and we've had it for around 6 years. It tends to flower every year I think but we have never had fruit before. I guess because it was so warm last summer?

That olive looks very ripe but the fruit does fall so it's this year's, not last. Weird! (I have 100+ olive trees so can recognise ripe fruit Grin)

The fruit takes a very long time to ripen - and that looks like a ripe olive to me!

It could be that last year was the first year that conditions were right for it to be pollinated, maybe someone else nearby has one that flowered at the same time as yours and they pollinated each other.

The single olive on one of my two (very small) trees developed from last year's flowers, has hung on all winter and has ripened as well.

You will probably see new flowers start to appear in a few weeks' time.
