Scruffy Garden Edges

I have a relatively small garden with 3 sides fenced and the back walled. All around the edges is this horrible long scruffy grass which the lawn mower can't touch and the strimmer only does so much.
Has anyone got any solutions with how to get rid of it? I don't have much gardening experience or time to maintain so a cheap quick solution would be excellent Smile

I have long handled shears which cut all along the edges as, like you, the lawn mower doesn't reach to the edge. If you only have a small garden then I guess you could buy a pair of scissors specifically for that job - I have a pair for the front that I use and it does the job well 😀

Great thank you. Not sure why I didn't think of that before Smile. I've also added an endging spade to my shopping list.

Is that a half moon spade? DH uses that but I'm nervous I'll take too much away and eat into the garden but it great for the stepping stones and so I use it for that once a year as it's a horrid job 😀

This video shows you how you can use your strimmer to edge your garden, maybe this will help

Great thank you everyone. Might tackle it after work this week thanks to the lighter nights.

Im currently working on this in my garden, have only just started so only done along one very large bed at the moment. Been using a half moon edging tool to cut along into the shape I want and then installed the EverEdge Classic system. It’s looking good so far and hopefully will help maintain a good sharp edge for years to come!!

just watched that you tube video and I have clearly been doing my strimming wrong all these years. Does everyone else hold theirs like this?

ATowelAndAPotato · 09/04/2019 08:10

Only for edging! I hold it the other way if I’m using it to tackle overgrowth etc.

Sounds like your strimmer isn't working properly. Is the strimmer's nylon line feeding out properly so you get a full length of line?

I gave it away as I hate doing it, find it too scary, might get one of those rechargeable ones, now I know the technique Grin
