What is this flower please?

I saw this growing against a north facing wall at a train station and wondered what it was. I'm hoping I might be able to get hold of some for a flower bed next to a north-facing wall in my garden, unless there's a good reason why not.

What is this flower please?

It's a periwinkle, very easy to cultivate so if you can get a root it will grow.

Vinca - either major or minor. Grows easily - sometimes too well - good ground cover, but keep in check!

The lesser periwinkle is less invasive and, in my opinion, has prettier flowers. The larger varieties are quite rampart and will take over an area. They are easy to prune and if you want them to take over, just pull up a clum and replant. They take very easily. Perfect for a North facing area.

Thanks all. I've now bought some of the variety with the smaller flowers.

They're for a self-contained flower bed in front of our north-facing bay window and I would be happy to let them carpet the whole bed, but if I do will they eventually "strangle" the larger plants in the bed, e.g. there are a couple of small Aster plants and something else of a similar size with yellow flowers.
