What on earth is this?

I’ve inherited a mystery plant from the previous owners of the house and I’ve no idea what it is! I’ve tried a couple of plant apps but they helpfully told me it was a ‘flower’ Hmm

The red new leaves made my MIL suggest photinia, but it’s just started flowering and the flowers are not photinia!

Any ideas, fab gardening people??

I am not a gardener, but I do know this one. It's a pieris, not sure of spelling.

I have one of those, when I haul myself out of bed I'll see if it's still got it's name tag thing Smile

IsolaPribby · 30/03/2019 08:41

Just checked, spelling good.

Dodie66 · 30/03/2019 08:45

Yes it’s a Pieris. The previous poster is correct

Magic! Thanks so much! Now I can figure out how to look after it as it’s definitely not happy right now...

Mine still had it's label Smile

We have two, they're lovely, aren't they? I'm not sure about the 'grows to 1 meter' thing, though; my parents have one that's easily 2m!

Is rock heather the same thing as Pieris?

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 30/03/2019 10:59

Thanks supergluerules Smile I had a hunch a few weeks ago that whatever it was might be an acid-lover so I hauled it out and stuck it in some ericaceous compost, but from your label I think I might need to move it to somewhere a bit less sunny as well. I think it got a bit crisped last summer Confused

Shade and acid compost. Pretty things though
