Is this Buddleia looking like I may have killed it?

I pruned it hard over autumn as it was so vigorous it grew about 6ft or more in just one summer.

It still has green shoots but they are starting to look brown in places.

Does it look like it will survive?

Buddleias survive anything. They will be there at the end of time!

Yes, it'll be fine. Buddleia's are pretty indestructible!

I had thought so, this one sprung up from nowhere just a few years ago and effectively routed itself where there’s just hardcore underneath the patio so very surprised it grew so much.

They survive on train tracks and the sides of buildings. I tried getting rid of an enormous one that previous owners let get so big it covered our window. I just keeps coming back again and again. I look forward to the day it dies!!!

But it's always the way isn't it? The plants you nurture die and the ones you hate survive 😂

We have had Buddleia in our garden for years and they never grew above about 12 inches but we left them alone. Over last summer they shot up to well over 6 feet and are taking over - why would they suddenly grow like that after being dormant for over 8 years?

Yes that look fine - see all the new shoots? It will be 6 ft tall in no time.

You can't kill a Buddleia unless you dig it out (really hard to do) and then implement a scorched earth policy for 3 years minimum. They are from the Himalayas and will grow in your ear.

Even we haven't managed to kill buddleia. And we manage to kill everything. It'll be fine.

My grandma didn’t like buddleias because they reminded her of bombsites in the war- they carried on growing even there!
I however have managed to kill 3 quarters of one with over zealous pruning last year. No doubt the remaining quarter will be 6 ft tall again by the end of the summer

One of ours is growing near a tree which has sentimental value, is it likely to damage the tree?
If so, I will be out with the shears tomorrow. Ironically we planted the tree there for screening because the buddleia wasn't doing anything and then it suddenly started to grow.

I LOVE buddleia !! The butterflies really need them. They're pretty too. they're easy to move if they're in the wrong place for you. Just take cuttings.

One of ours is lovely, it's keeping it's shape nicely and looks good but the other has got too big for it's boots and is growing ridiculously tall and can't support it's weight. It's going to be cut down to ground level next time I get out in the garden.
I can't move it either as we have got one either side of the garden and they look good like that. It's purely by chance as we didn't plant them there.
