Climber Plants

Hi,

I am after some reccommendations for climber plants that are green all year round but also flower at parts of the year? Nothing mega expensive or too high maintenance.

Very new to gardening in our new home and starting with the smallest area - two trelasis against an outside wall.

Thanks!

I think winter flowering jasmine is evergreen - and has the bonus of flowering very early in the year when precious little else is!

RatherBeRiding · 21/02/2019 16:48

Also Clematis armandii

Chocolate vine. I’ve recently planted some

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle, pyracantha (though this song flower for the first couple of years), some jasmines, solanum (though this can get big).

SubparOwl · 26/02/2019 08:36

Won't flower, not song.

How big? Sun or shade? Pot or ground?

Not evergreen, but no garden is complete without a scented climbing rose. Look for one that’s repeat flowering.

Clematis armandii (already mentioned)
Clematis cirrhosa - several varieties
Trachelospermum
Hoelbellia and Stauntonia
hydrangea seemanii

Summer Jasmine is lovely especially pared with clematis montanta rubens. In the summer it has white perfumed flowers. I have a variegated one. It stays green all winter then just before it flowers it drops all of its leaves. At that same time Montana Rubens has a grand show of small pink flowers. The Jasmine need minimum pruning and the Montana Clematis is cut back just once a year after flowering. Both are rampart. It easy to contain.

Coronilla is lovely. I have one by my back door and it hasn't stopped flowering all year, including a beautiful scent.

It's a climbing shrub rather than a climber.
