Another what is this plant (cactus this time)?

£4 from Tesco, ceramic plant pot included (a prickly Valentine’s Day present!).

He is actually quite a bright green and with markedly red spikes - doesn’t show up that well in the picture.

Anyone know what type of cactus this is?

Yup, it's Stenocerus thurberi, aka the organ pipe cactus, native to Mexico. It can eventually reach a height of 5metres or more, branching from the base (I suspect you have several seedling plants in that pot). Don't expect to flower it!

Ah, thank you (again)!

Looked it up and would not have recognised my little thing compared with those giants!

A plant app misidentified it as a golden barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii)

I don't think plant apps are much good when it comes to the thousands of cacti and succulent species, they probably have a very limited scope.

Ooh - I have another cactus to identify. May or not be a grown up version of the one you've identified. But will start a new thread for this
