blue berry bush

I planted a blueberry bush last year and was sort of hoping for some berries this year but it looks like if it produces any will be a grand total of 3.
Do these plants take a while to settle before prducing fruit?
It is a small plant but its in the right kind of soil I think.
I have in in a fairly sheltered spot with sunny/partial shade aspect.

I don't think so, I got 2 plants early this year, and we're already eating fruit off of them. I know nothing about gardening, but the person I bought them at the farmer's market from seemed to know a lot.

He said to do it right, you would need at least 2 plants for cross-pollination, and each one should be of a different variety of blueberry. He also said they absolutely need to be in a very sunny area. If they don't get enough sun, they won't make fruit. He said their roots run very shallow, so they need room to spread out, because they roots go out, not down. Since the roots are only down a few inches, you need to be very careful around them not to dislodge them. And lastly, he said feed them with a good rhododeneron (sp?) fertilizer, because they will thrive on that.

I've only got about 20 ripe berries from mine, but following his instructions, there are very many more on the plants just waiting to ripen. HTH.

Oh, and I forgot, be sure to keep weeds away from them, because they mess up the roots and kill the plant.

I was told that they usually take a couple of years to settle (mine were very small ones) and have just started fruiting this year.

Will try the fertiliser though in the future,
