...never mind flowers - will it be fried green tomatoes at the no-hope cafe?!

If its any consolation, mine are the same. They are all outdoors & the lack of sunlight & cool temps have done them no favours.

I visited the National Trust's Walled Kitchen Garden at Clumber Park yesterday & I was mightily pleased to see that their tomatoes were in the same state as mine.

Mine are outdoors, in the sunniest spot of the garden, but are a bit rubbish.

(Yes, Mirage, it IS some consolation!)

Mine in greenhouse and some have green toms, some have flowers, and some no flowers at all. They are all different varieties though.

pollywollydoodle · 30/06/2007 23:29

mine in greenhouse...just a few flowers....latest they've been for years

pollywollydoodle · 30/06/2007 23:30

and the slugs ate my cucumber plants!

JennsterFrogLover · 30/06/2007 23:37

Barstard slugs!

bettythebuilder · 30/06/2007 23:42

this is all very reassuring my toms are in the greenhouse, but I potted up all the seedling a bit late due to going on hols, and so I have about 11 plants, and only 3 have flowers- not a tomato between them!

Here's hoping for a flaming July

Greensleeves · 30/06/2007 23:45

Hahaha, mine have got big fat red fuck-off tomatoes literally dripping from every branch

bettythebuilder · 01/07/2007 00:08

may a curse of Tomato Drop befall you

MrsWho · 01/07/2007 08:17

My tumbling ones are covered in tomatos but the others aren't really flowering yet. This is how they started last year but it was a bit earlier though, just the crap weather isn't helping this year.

thefuturesbright · 02/07/2007 15:50

I have already eaten some tomatoes. Ha! Ok, just two or three sungold but they were fabulous. Otherwise even though they are in the greenhouse they are not great this year. But I don't care, we are moving out on Thursday and I am taking the best ones with me in pots.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 02/07/2007 15:54

I have a few baby green ones and a lot of flowers.

Our cleaner as got some nearly ready to eat - every week she comes and shows off about it. Apparently she is showing off in the local pub too and is pissed off because people there don't believe it.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 02/07/2007 15:54

'has', not 'as'

scampadoodle · 02/07/2007 20:05

I tried to be too clever & only grew these Italian plum tomatoes (british seed company though) so I think that's why they haven't flowered yet - not hot enough. Next year I'll be boring but safe and grow gardeners' delight or sungold or something

Oh, & I don't have a greenhouse. I'll bet all the 'crowers' ( ) on this thread have greenhouses...

lol @ the exciting social dynamics 'round your way Kathy

TheDuchessOfNorks · 02/07/2007 20:38

Mine are fucked I tell you. Completely deluged in rain. I doubt very much that they'll recover.

Courgettes/cucumbers/butternut squash & pumpkins are however, loving this weather and are swelling up like

brandy7 · 02/07/2007 20:39

ive never had a tomatoe plant before, some of the flowers died and theres 4 teeny tiny green toms? is that good? do they grow into big red juicy ones

MegaLegs · 02/07/2007 20:40

Mine have recovered from blight (although the outdoor ones are looking dodgy again) lots of trusses, a few small green toms, huge plants.

Tanee58 · 06/07/2007 18:09

Only flowers on mine too (outdoors) and the ones I put in a growbag are looking very ill - growing poorly and yellowing leaves - the ones which I put in a trough filled with growbag compost seem much happier, but still only flowers. I reckon it's the rotten weather wot done it, really annoyed, this is my first attempt in new house

Greensleeves · 06/07/2007 18:10

I haven't got a greenhouse. But then, I haven't got any tomatoes either. I was LYING.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 15/07/2007 21:41

Any ripe tomatoes yet?

bettythebuilder · 15/07/2007 22:21

nope, just little green ones which (like brandy) I'm hoping will grow into lovely big juicy red ones.

The mid-winter type weather and complete lack of any form of sunlight is not dampening my optimism

Frizbe · 15/07/2007 22:23

it'll be fine, lots of September Tomatoes for us all I think (prays to small god of tomato plants)

Tanee58 · 16/07/2007 15:43

I have about 10 tiny green toms at last - but they are TINY! I transferred the struggling plants from their growbag to a trough yesterday (in the middle of a thunderstorm - how keen is that ) - they look very pale and weedy in comparison with those that were in troughs from the start, but I've moved them nearer the others to see if they will buck up when they see how their sisters are doing . They do have about 4 little toms on them...

When would be the best time to start them on Tomorite?
