What to grow under car port?

In our new house we don’t have much of a garden, but I enjoy growing vegetables (well, tomatoes and lettuce, I’m pretty rubbish at everything else!). We do have a decent sized car port and I’ve noticed that the 5ft strip against the wall does get the daylight for a few hours a day. If I put some growbags here (or pots) would any veg actually grow? It doesn’t get direct sun (I don’t think) so I’m thinking the answer is probably no!

Thank you in advance x

I'd go with tomatoes.

Do you think they would grow? The only bonus is that the area is quite sheltered (as it’s walls on three sides) so they would be safe from wind/late frost, harsh rain etc.

Tomatoes will sulk without sun! You might get away with lettuce?? Do you use the car port for a car? It might be a bit fumey...

No, it doesn’t fit a car (well you can get it in but can’t get out of the car) so it’s completely wasted space - which is annoying considering I haven’t got much outside space.

That's v frustrating!! Is it at least useful for drying washing on wet days?? Good luck with the veg. Mushrooms? You can get inoculated logs which like a shady spot.

ElyElyOy · 14/01/2019 19:13

I hadn’t thought of using it to try the washing, maybe I will have to put a line up Smile

Sadly I think mushrooms are the work of the devil so sadly that’s not something I want to try Grin

Thank you for the link :)

My Granny used to grow a morning glory up the support pillar of her carport.

ElyElyOy · 14/01/2019 22:06

That’s a good idea actually, I could maybe put a pot in front of the supports and grow tomatoes up it or something x
