It’s for my brother’s home. He is most impractical ( on autistic spectrum high functioning) but has recently taken to gardening, We’ve had the jungle on his front garden professionally cleared and he’d like a rose. Ideally a bush about 1-1.5m tall, with fragrance and not too disease prone. Thanks for any suggestions.

Blanc Double de Colbert
Beautifully scented rugosa hybrid. Tough, repeat flowering, good hips, pruning not essential

Iceberg - mine is routinely forgotten, and if left to its own devices will flower pretty much all year round. It's in flower now.

Thanks trethew I like the sound of Blanc double as it is a rugosa and googling tells me they are more robust and less disease prone. My mum had iceberg and it is a lovely rose but knowing my brother the tougher the plant the better!

I am not a fan of Iceberg. Unless it is pruned regularly it seems to have top heavy blooms on splindly branches

Claire Austen, Woolerton Old Hall and Tranqility are my favourite white roses.

David Austin is great for advice. You can email a question and they get back to you with really good advice. Their roses come with a money back guarantee,
