What might these be?

Ds planted some seeds at school. They now look like this.
Any idea what they might be? Will they grow into something beautiful if we persevere or is it just grass?

That compost is too wet for a start.

The long ones might be fennel, not sure the sorter ones...they aren't grass though.

I think it would be easier just to ask the teacher.

Long ones could be chives, short with leaves maybe cress?

sackrifice · 10/12/2018 16:25

Chives usually have a black seed at the top, this one is long like a fennel. Also they look as if the stem splits into two seed leaves, like a fennel. You can tell by snipping off the end of a leaf and seeing if it smells of anything.

The small ones, probably lettuce now I can see it on a big screen.

I think chives for the longer one. Small one could be anything since the leaves will change.

The teacher said they are either random herb seeds left over from a previous year or they are some sort of flower. So that was not very useful. We will just wait and see what happens, I'm not very good at waiting though.
