Orchid has no flowers

My DP bought me an orchid for mothers day. In great condition, had about 6 flowers on, and some buds for more, those bloomed, and for a while the flowers looked great, however, as these died, and the new buds flowered and went, no new buds have formed.

It is in a clear plastic container, which a lady in local garden centre said it should stay in, its near sunlight, but its not right in direct sunlight. It gets watered probably every two-4 days depending on how hot it is, and I spray the leaves with a mister every couple of days too.

It still looks healthy, has new leaves growing, and what looks like they will be new shoots growing, but they do not become shoots, just wither and drop off. No apparant dead bits, but no flowers at all.

What am I doing wrong?

I've never had an orchid but had to 'babysit' some over Easter. My friend said the flowering stalk has to be cut back a bit to encourage it to bloom again. But I don't know how far you should cut - I hope someone else more helpful comes along soon!

Thanks Sue - its a start. Maybe just below one of the nodules?
I will take a look, and also wait for some confirmation. Prob is now there is no flowering at all!

I think you are watering too much.

Water it in it's pot, within another pot submerged up to the rim in warm-hot water, let it soak for a while and then drain on your draining board. (just in its plastic container).

If any brown discoloured stalk, cut it, to where a "branch" comes out of the stem, so that it can regrow.

I have about 5 without flowers, they do come back, just don't forget about them.

Keep them warm, no draughts.
