Hi. I'm a beginner gardener with a hit 'n' hope approach. I've got a weird question.
I sent my son to the shop for onions and when he came back he said "the onions have toenails!" In other words they have started sprouting in their net 
I've used all except one which has a fairly big and healthy looking bit of growth. Can I just stick it in a pot of soil? Will it grow or just rot?
I was thinking it might keep growing the leaves so I've got 'cut & come again' spring onion/chivey things..?
Any advice gratefully received. Ta.
