How to put up a pergola on a patio

We have a patio that we put in a few years ago. Earlier in the year, one of our neighbours chopped down the bamboo that was nicely screening our garden from their overlooking windows. So now I want to put up a pergola to grow a climber up for privacy. Would it need to be attached to the patio somehow? I've seen pics of ones in "feet" - will that do?

Google “YouTube how to build a pergola over patio”. It will show you.

I have watched quite a few but most seem to dig up a paver or drill through, which I'm scared to do!

How else are you going to anchor it Confused?

You could get two large square planters and concrete the posts into them. Then fill the remainder with compost to plant your climbers in.

Thanks Beebumble2. That's the sort of idea I was looking for.

Metpost do a bolt-down foot.
Choose the ones that are near enough the size of your pergola legs, you can drill & rawl bolt the feet to the patio.

Thanks, I think that's the best plan, I'll look them up.
