Fruit trees

We want to get a black mulberry, and maybe a cherry : anyone have any advice on suppliers, pitfalls, diseases, cultivars, or other ideas for fruit trees? We particularly want fruit we might eat, but that won't require picking off the lawn (currently we have several diseased apple trees which mean hours of picking up windfalls and trying to dispose of them. At least fallen mulberries will vanish over winter!

Thank you for your wisdom!

Winter is the best time to plant any fruit whether bushes or trees. I get mine from Marshalls Seeds or Wilko, they do a good line and are very good value.
