Hi everyone just wanted peoples experience with weeds. If you were just starting out at this time of year and had an overgrown patch would you strim, cover with cardboard, dig out or do something different to get weeds under control?
thanks

When we moved here, the garden was overrun with weeds. We covered it with black plastic and left it for a year. We didn’t dig out, because it was mostly ground elder and we didn’t want to spread bits of root about.

Do you know what your weeds are?

Cover with cardboard and add either woodchips or compost on top to a depth of 6inch. The cardboard will exclude light and kill the weeds. You can plant straight away into the compost you added.

Thanks both for replying... There's definately bind weed. Its a fairly small plot. I'm thinking of covering two thirds and digging the other third to plant some green manure and get a third ready for planting?

"Do a little and do it often", there is plenty of time until it will be needed for planting.
