Orchid

I have been bought an orchid for my birthday. I am only watering it once a week (leaving it to soak for ten minutes and draining). It is in a clear pot away from direct sunlight but on a window sill. Is there anything else I need to know to keep it healthy and to stop it from dying? I have had it for about six weeks and it is still flowering. In particular, I would like to know what to do when the flowers drop off, do I need to prune?

I water my orchids once a month and give them a feed with orchid food. Once the flowers have died you can cut off the flower stork and it will, eventually gown another and flower again.
I keep mine on the kitchen windowsill once they have flowered as they like the moist air away from direct sunlight but still with plenty of light.
Once of mine has just flowered again after 18 months and another one has been in continuous flower since March but I think that has been due to the unusual hot weather this summer.

Thanks don’t. How far do you cut back, just the bit where it has flowered or further down?

I cut them right down to the base.
then soak them with warm water and a weak feed.
then I ignore for a month or so. no watering.
when you start watering weekly they should start out with a new flowering stalk.
