I have been gifted with this shrub by a friend. I want to plant it in a space half way down my garden. But my garden is only 12 feet wide and I've read that these can grow to 8 feet wide! I don't want to block my path though the garden. Has anyone successfully managed to keep one to a more reasonable size? Thanks.

I am of the opinion plants will grow to what you let them...just hack the bits off you dont want...sorry neatly trim

Look at a picture of Mariesii and you will see that it has a lovely shape with sort of layered branches with the flowers along the top. It is not going to get 8ft wide for years, so I would allow it to grow in its natural habit until it starts to encroach on the path, and then trim only the offending branches
