Has anyone used a garden designer?

And if so was it worth it?

We only have a very small garden so I feel almost embarrassed asking someone to come and look at it but I spend a fortune on plants that always die and the layout is not very good so I think I could use some expert advice

I've just done this for a large border. For £150 she gave me a planting design with plant list and a key to follow to plant them in the right order.

She designed to my brief and chose appropriate plants.

She also offers gardening services for an hourly rate so i paid for a few hours and we worked together to plant the scheme.

I'm really chuffed - I'd never have had the confidence to buy so many plants (£££) without her design and expertise. It looks fab and will get better as they grow to full size.

I have, I think it cost about £250 about 8 years ago (was a bargain as she was a friend of a friend and not really working as she had a newborn).
She came up with 3 basic ideas of layout (having seen and measured our garden and spoken to us about what we were looking for) and then we chose the design we liked the best and she developed that with planting and materials lists.
The plan was great, unfortunately my then husband didn't agree so we only put in place half of her ideas.
When my divorce comes through and if I stay in this house, I shall be ringing her up and getting her back round to redesign the garden just for me and my tastes!

It cost over £5,000 for them to design and do the work for a very small garden. So not cheap,I would have done it myself if I'd been fitter.
