Can I plant a climbing plant now?

Hello Mumsnet Gardeners.

I have just moved into my first home with a garden, so I think I may be here a lot!

There's an arch and a few empty trellaces. I'd love to plant something that will grow up them. Is it the wrong time of year? Are there any types of plant that would be suitable for now?

Thanks!

I'm in a similar situation. Just pulled some dead clematis down, looks awfully bare now. But is it a good time to try to establish something else?

Hope an expert comes along and advises us! Good luck with your new garden and home

I’ve just planted a evergreen climber so I’m keeping my fingers crossed

Congratulations on your new gardens! I'm not an expert, but you're right that there are many here.

Autumn is a great time to plant shrubs and perennials and, of course, the time to plant spring bulbs.

Take some time to find out about your garden - soil type, when and where you get sun and shade and so on and then you can start matching plants you like to places were they'll flourish. Good luck!
