Returned from two weeks holiday to find these shrubs decimated. I don’t actually know what they are, here before I moved in, but they are usually spindly, deep burgundy rounded leaves, lots of spikes usuallyquite ‘lush’ growth. Got back from holiday to discover they have been, presumably, eaten by something. Not a leaf left. So, a few questions for experts....
What are they?
What might have eaten them?
Can they recover?
What do I need to do?
Is it likely to spread to other shrubs nearby? There’s bay, laurel, box, hydrangea, walnut, yew, sycamore and ceanothus nearby.
