Hiding tall fence

Our back garden is adjacent to the back gardens of the houses in the next street. We have a 6ft fence at the bottom of the garden, most of which is hidden by my son’s climbing frame and a laurel tree. The people in the house behind have put up a fence which comes up about 2ft higher than ours. I don’t mind as our kitchen looks directly into theirs so they obviously want more privacy, but it looks hideous. Any ideas for nice, low maintenance trees or shrubs which would be tall enough to hide it?

Amelanchier is a tree that doesn't get too tall. Quick growers would be native elder or hazel, you could plant shrubs round them and wait for the shrubs to grow then cut down the hazel etc once the shrubs are tall enough. It depends what part of the country you are in, whether it's north/south facing and soil quality what will grow and how fast.
