How do you look after potted lavender?

I’m relatively new to gardening and bought a potted lavender about month ago in full bloom. Now I think the blooms are over, but firstly I’m not sure if they are over and secondly if they are, should I dead head them?

I read a few things about not letting lavender get too woody at the base, and I can see the stems are going a bit brown. I just want to know what to do next so it doesn’t die on me! I have included a photo.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!

It looks like French Lavender, so I’d give it a good clip down to the green growth. Don’t clip onto the brown woody bits.

Thank you, it’s angustifolia hidcote if that makes any difference. Just checked the label.

If I cut it down is it likely to flower again this year?

It might send up some smaller shoots by the end of August. It’s a funny year for plants, too hot even for those that like the sun.

Thanks. You’re absolutely right, it is a funny year for plants! At least I can blame the weather if it all goes wrong ;)
